What the CIA thinks of your anti-virus program

Peppering the 8,000 pages of purported Central Intelligence Agency hacking data released Tuesday by WikiLeaks are reviews of some of the world's most popular anti-virus products.
The hackers are quoted taking potshots at anti-virus firms, suggesting the American intelligence agencies are keenly aware of flaws in the products meant to be keeping us all safe online.
The data published by WikiLeaks isn't systematic enough to draw firm conclusions about the reliability of one product or another and the uncertain dating means the CIA's critiques provide more of a snapshot than an overview.
Still, the posts show America's top cyberspies aren't always flattering about commonly used security software. …

If used with software that could keep up, a scroll wheel mapped to send a stream of 'undo' and 'redo' events could be kind of cool.

I've had to answer a lot of questions about nomadic identity recently. It's not that hard. Let me try and bring it to an easier conceptual level.

For our example we'll start with email since it's a concept many people sort of understand.

You've got a friend named Bob. Bob has two email accounts. He has a home account at bob@home.server, and he has a work account at bob@work.server . Now most people instinctively know that if they get an email from either address, that they've received an email from Bob. They usually don't even think about what server he is using.

Nomadic identity just means that when we send an email, we will send to both of Bob's addresses any time we send an email to Bob. This way he'll get the message no matter if he's at home or if he's at work.

Simple enough? Good, let's continue.

Now let's take this into the decentralised social networking space such as provided by Hubzilla. What's different? The only thing is that if Bob posts a picture while he's at work, his work server send a copy to his home server so he'll have the same picture in his photo albums in both places. If he makes a new friend, the friend will be added on both servers so he has the same friends no matter where he goes.

Now if Bob loses his job and his account gets removed from work.server, Bob's onlife life still goes on and he still knows the same people and still can post the same things. He'll just use home.server; and then when he gets a new job, he can send you stuff from bob@newjob.server. Your software will instantly notice - "hey, this is my friend Bob!" even if it has never heard of newjob.server before and update some stuff internally to indicate that Bob can now be reached at newjob.server.

None of this matters to you, because as far as your software is concerned, it's just 'Bob'. You don't care what server he uses or what job he has this week.

That's what nomadic identity is all about..

So as long as Bob takes good care when he moves his account from server to server there is nothing left for me to do. Great. No more mails as "My e-mail adress has changed ...".

I guess I have to get away from this server/account view to an identity view.
Thanks a lot.

it is disheartening to see  how just few people do care about this, do not give importance to things so important in the Internet age...

of course I'm talking about  when we explain it outside of hubzilla.

MIDNIGHT OIL ANNOUNCE “THE GREAT CIRCLE 2017” WORLD TOUR ::  Midnight Oil
Bild/Foto
SYDNEY, Australia. Feb 17. 2017. 9:45am AEDT.
Legendary Australian rock band and agitators Midnight Oil today announced their first World Tour in over two decades. They also unveiled plans to release three archival box sets including a collection called “The Overflow Tank” which will contain more than 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material.

“The Great Circle 2017” World Tour will see the group’s classic line-up literally circle around our overheating planet for 6 months, starting and ending with gigs in Sydney. Appropriately for a band forged in their hometown’s sweat-drenched beer barns, the tour will begin in mid-April with an intimate local pub gig (details to be announced closer to the date). Midnight Oil will then hone their live show with over 30 gigs around the world during the northern summer, playing iconic venues from Sao Paulo’s Espaço das Americas and the Wiltern in L.A. to London’s Hammersmith Apollo and The Olympia in Paris. They will share festival stages with artists like Arcade Fire, Sting and The Pixies and finally return to New Zealand after 20 years.

This long-awaited World Tour will climax with 18 special homecoming concerts through October and November, 2017. Given the band’s deep connections with central Australia the local leg will kick off in Alice Springs and Darwin before starting to circle their homeland with a show in the rainforest near Cairns. Over the following five weeks the tour will loop clockwise around the country in mainly outdoor venues including Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley, Victoria’s Hanging Rock and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Brisbane’s Riverstage and the Village Green beside Adelaide Oval before “The Great Circle” finally comes to a close right back where it all began; with a final show in Sydney on November 11 at that traditional home of Australian political activism, The Domain.

I believe Peter Garrett recently sold his house a few km's from here but I've run into him around town several times. He was run through the political mill here and spat out, and I'm interested to find out how this experience shaped him musically. I'm expecting a Midnight Oil that is more energised and relevant and I don't think that (musically) he's going to hold back criticism of anybody or anything.

Midnight Oil finds 'new relevance' in Trump era, says political climate right for their message
'People fall asleep, things creep in'
The band says the political climate is right for their message.
"We're part of the pushback and we are not alone. There's a whole bunch of people here, and throughout Europe and other places that we're touring, who feel the same way," Hirst says.
"This is one of those tiny moments in history that will disappear as quickly as it came, and we will just be out there singing the same songs which perhaps have a new relevance."
Midnight Oil nominates songs like Short Memory — a warning of the dangers of historical complacency — or Read About It, a lament for the freedom of the press as especially salient now in the era of Mr Trump.

Robert Anton Wilson - Operation Mindfuck

Bild/Foto

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Rework UNKLE Side Project Toydrum: Listen | Pitchfork

Bild/Foto

Pablo Clements and James Griffith of UNKLE have a side project called Toydrum. On their new remix album My Eye On You (To Reinvision), they enlisted “friends, peers and people we love to work with” to reimagine songs from their albums Distant Focus Vol. 1 and Evangelist. Two of those peers are Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, who have delivered their rework of Toydrum’s “I've Got a Future,” featuring the late singer-songwriter Gavin Clark.

Datenhändler: Wir sind gläsern – Datensammler Teil1 • Kuketz IT-Security Blog
