Driving along a winding country road, barely paying attention. Then BAM!. There's a bloody giant peacock standing in the middle of the bloody road.
Again.

It's complicated. They are an introduced species originally from India and Burma/Myanmar - and a number of people keep them as pets because they keep the local snake population under control. But a number of these pets have escaped into the wild over time and these show up in little pockets across Australia. I think these are probably feral, but I just don't know; since there are a number of farms near where I encountered them.
I will remind readers that the road in question is the boundary of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and you can find emus walking/running on the road a few minutes from here. But peacocks kind of stand out.

That was exactly my thought.
I worked on a farm for many years. We used to have two of these guys, they needed a new place to stay and we had plenty of room. They were always where you didn't expect them and when you least expected them, they were right behind you and started crowing. But they were really nice guys.
However, we did not have any snakes.

There is a flock of ferel Guinea hens in my neighborhood, with one female peacock who runs around with them. No one seems to know where the came from. Everyone feeds them
