Each household should run its own Fediverse server.
Meanwhile, there are too many instances that are too big.

I agree. That's what I've been dreaming of since I first found out about it. Maybe not each household, but a server for a small group of people who know each other personally, like friends or family, or even your local Linux User Group. I suspect that it would also eliminate most of the hate speech; if you're on a server that's run by your brother or a close friend you're a lot more likely to behave.

True. We should act like tribes in digital communication.

I have a similar idea, with creating a sort of 'local supply chain'. Since I spent my entire life in manufacturing, and I am a Linux hobbyist, I am building the concept of regional manufacturing supply chain, but other people may adopt it in all sort of different context.
The owner-operated server is the next big thing, I am certain of it. However, a small social unit like a family, or even as a township does not have the necessary resources in intellectual and financial assets to lead of provide a reference. It has to be scaled properly, and what is proper going to be decided by its purpose.
Manufacturing is entirely functional and practical, and things like makers, 2D printing, drafting and design are all maybe connected to help people provide and expert pool employers would love to have access to. The 'supply' chain is as much about local job market as about manufacturing capacity and available floor space.
I am always looking for people to discuss this sort of stuff!
